The Geek in Residence pilot program from the Australia Council connects 'geeks' (by which they mean technically confident artists and creatively confident technicians) with arts organisations through a temporary subsidised secondment scheme. The fund totals $160,000. Geeks will be paid a negotiated salary according to industry standard, with an appropriate contribution (up to half) coming from the host organisations.

The Digital Culture Fund from the Australia Council is a pilot initiative for people who have been working creatively with digital technologies for some time as well as experienced artists already within the community, already supported by a grant. The purpose of this fund is for the Australia Council to support the creation of innovative digital artwork which might happen physically in front of the crowd or be experienced through a technological platform.
Entries by 7 January 2010
Films entered must be made specifically for Tropfest 2010, which must be its first public screening. The films must be no longer than 7 minutes, and must contain the Tropfest signature item DICE. A new mobile film category, Telstra Mobile Masterpieces, is being added. The 16 finalist films and 3 Telstra Mobile Masterpieces finalist films will screen nationally on 21 February 2010.

The St Kilda Film Festival 2010 is open for entries. This festival of short films screens Australian shorts in all genres including drama, comedy, documentary, animation, music video and digital media. The short film competition awards over $40,000 worth of cash and in-kind craft awards, including a $10,000 prize for Best Short Film. The best music videos will be included in SoundKILDA - the Australian Music Video Competition.

Over The Fence Short Film Fest is open for entries. The festival features a wide variety of filmmaking – animation, claymation, mockumentary and live action - and comedic genres – slapstick, irreverence, absurdity and drama to name a few.

Australian Interactive Media Industry Association (AIMIA) has launched an initiative across Australia called Innovatives. Entries are accepted throughout the year. The program is managed by a committee from AIMIA, ABC's Innovation division, Deloitte, Intel and GT Law to promote innovation in the Australian digital media industry. The aim of the program is to provide the innovator with the support they need to progress their idea from early concept stages to commercial launch.
